Minne Lusa Happenings the Week of January 27

Every student. Every day. Prepared for success.

It is the mission of Minne Lusa Elementary School, in partnership with families and community, to provide rigorous educational opportunities in a safe and secure environment.

Greetings Minne Lusa Families and Friends!!

We have a new number!

531-299-1840

Our students have completed their Science and Math and are working to finish up their Reading MAP assessments this week. We have already seen growth for many of our students from when they took the assessment in September! This Winter MAP provides teachers with results that let them know exactly what skills to focus on to help students continue to achieve.
You can help your child continue to grow and learn at home by doing some of the following:
  1. Encourage your child to read 20 minutes everyday. If you need some books at home, check with your child's teacher or Mr. White and they can help.
  2. Play games that help students practice their math facts - flash cards or card games are great!
  3. Check with your child's teacher for access to online tools that they can practice skills at home.
  4. Help your child get at least 8 hours of sleep every night.
  5. Limit screen time at home and encourage frequent physical activity between each match for our gamers.
  6. Limit processed foods like chips and candy and encourage drinking water instead of soda.
Below is a resource from the Nebraska Department of Education for families with students in grade K-3 in developing reading support at home:

Early Release Procedures

OPS Families: As winter continues, we want to remind you that we have two new options in our winter weather toolkit. The evening before a weather event, Omaha Public Schools may call for a two-hour late start or a two-hour early release if weather is predicted to affect part, but not all of a school day. We shared information about the new options earlier this year. OPS would communicate the schedule adjustment by phone call and email, so please be sure your student’s school has your current contact information on file. Please do not block calls or emails from OPS, as you may miss important messages in the future.

Minne Lusa Happenings for the Week of January 13

Every student. Every day. Prepared for success.

It is the mission of Minne Lusa Elementary School, in partnership with families and community, to provide rigorous educational opportunities in a safe and secure environment.

Greetings Minne Lusa Families and Friends!!

We have a new number!

531-299-1840

The start of the new year gives opportunity for a few reminders to ensure a successful second semester for you and your child. Here are a few reminders:
  1. Make sure your contact information is up-to-date. Let Brenda our secretary know if you have a new address, phone number, or email. Let us know if your child's emergency contacts have changed as well.
  2. If your child is showing signs of the flu, let them stay home so they can get the rest they need and avoid sharing germs or getting more sick. We want everyone to feel 100%!
  3. Teachers are always in need of extra pencils, tissues, and bleach wipes so please consider donating these to your child's classroom.
  4. If your child needs any winter gear (coat, hat, gloves, scarf, etc.), please contact our school counselor Sarah Dragon and she can help.
  5. Doors open at 8:25 AM and breakfast begins at 8:35 AM and concludes at 8:50 AM. With the weather getting colder, dropping off as close to 8:25 AM ensures a shorter outside wait time. When dropping off at the breakfast doors, please make sure to keep the bus lane free.
  6. Make sure to check out the links in this newsletter.
Thank you always for your support!
