Minne Lusa Happenings for the Week of December 16

Every student. Every day. Prepared for success.

It is the mission of Minne Lusa Elementary School, in partnership with families and community, to provide rigorous educational opportunities in a safe and secure environment.

Greetings Minne Lusa Families and Friends!!

With only five days left until our Winter Break, we wanted to take a moment to say thank you.
  • Thank you to our families for sharing your children with us everyday.
  • Thank you to our community partners like the Minne Lusa Neighborhood, Partnership for Kids, SPARK Positivity, and Trinity Lutheran Church for everything you do for our students and staff.
  • Thank you to our students for making it a joy to come to school everyday.
  • Thank you to our staff for caring for our students, our school and each other.

We look forward to a wonderful last days before break and can't wait to see what we will accomplish in the new year!

Locker Clean Out; December 20th

All students will spend time on our last day before break cleaning out their lockers and desks and taking all personal items home. We ask that when we return in January, you discourage your child from bringing things that can distract from the learning environment. These items include extra food or candy (beyond what they bring in their lunch bags), toys, extra clothes, make-up, and trading cards (e.g., DragonBallZ or Pokemon). Thank you for your support!

Early Release Procedures

OPS Families: As winter continues, we want to remind you that we have two new options in our winter weather toolkit. The evening before a weather event, Omaha Public Schools may call for a two-hour late start or a two-hour early release if weather is predicted to affect part, but not all of a school day. We shared information about the new options earlier this year. OPS would communicate the schedule adjustment by phone call and email, so please be sure your student’s school has your current contact information on file. Please do not block calls or emails from OPS, as you may miss important messages in the future.

Title I Information

Click here to contact Mrs. Denton if you are interested in serving on our school's School Improvement or MTSS Committees.

This Title I School-Parent Compact has been jointly developed with parents and outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State’s high academic achievement standards.  At the annual parent-teacher conferences, the compact shall be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.

As a school, we will:

1.  Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment to enable children to meet the challenging state academic achievement standards.
2.    Regularly communicate with parents on their child’s progress.
3.    Demonstrate professional behavior and positive attitude.
4.    Teach in a way that embraces differences in learning styles.
5.    Create a supportive and effective environment where students are respected and feel confident to take risks as a learner.
6.    Provide opportunities for families to be involved in school decisions, volunteer in school functions, and receive strategies to help students be successful.

As a family, we will:

1.    Communicate and work with teachers and school staff on an ongoing basis to be involved and support my child’s learning.
2.    Support our child’s learning—attend conferences and school functions, volunteer in their classroom, participate, as appropriate, in decisions related to their education, and guide positive use of extracurricular time.
3.    Make sure my child is at school every day and on time, unless he/she is ill.
4.    Support our child by monitoring his/her progress, checking regularly for school communication, and ensuring that all homework is completed.
5.    Work with the school to ensure that our child’s academic, social, and physical needs are being met.
6.    Maintain open communication with the school by asking questions about any areas of concern and informing the school about any pertinent student information that will help promote a productive learning environment.
As a student, I will

1.    Be at school every day and on time unless I am sick.
2.    Be safe by serving as a positive role model to peers and others by following all school expectations in and out of school.
3.    Be accountable for my own behavior.
4.    Be responsible by respecting and cooperating with other students and coming to school each day prepared with completed schoolwork and an attitude to learn.
5.    Read at home.
6.    Share my knowledge and news about my school experiences with my family.

Parent Right To Know Clause At the beginning of the school year, any District that accepts Title 1 , Part A funding must notify parents that they can request information regarding their child’s teacher and his/her qualifications, including certification and endorsements. Parents can also request information about paraprofessionals working with their children. Nebraska requires that Title I schools must also provide each parent a timely notice that their child has been assigned, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a teacher who is not No Child Left Behind qualified.

Minne Lusa Happenings the Week of December 9

Every student. Every day. Prepared for success.

It is the mission of Minne Lusa Elementary School, in partnership with families and community, to provide rigorous educational opportunities in a safe and secure environment.

Greetings Minne Lusa Families and Friends!!

We have four goal areas that we are focused on everyday: Academics, Attendance, Safety and Wellness. Even with only a few days left before our Winter Break, our attention to these goals are steadfast.

Academics - Students will demonstrate academic growth in reading, math, and science.
Attendance - Strive for 95% attendance for the school year.
Safety - Staff will have active supervision at all times.
Wellness - Increase positive incentives for students that are not food-based. Example: Extra recess, indoor games, etc.

In the next few weeks we will be practicing our Lockdown procedures. Thank you in advance for talking with your child about the importance of following staff directions, remaining calm, and staying quiet while we practice these drills.
